In this edition, Washington County Public Works Director Joe Kroboth talks about three projects that have begun or been completed this summer. The rehabilitation of the dam in Antietam, Creek at Devil’s Backbone Park will satisfy requirements of the Maryland Department of the Environment, the Maryland Historic Trust and Citizens’ groups. The Transit Transfer Center contract was awarded recently, and work has begun on that project in Downtown Hagerstown. The aging Trego Road train station, in danger of collapse into the roadway, has been demolished through a joint County-state project. Also—County Clerk Vicki Lumm on County Advisory Boards and Commissions and the need for applications.

On this program, County Administrator Greg Murray, guest on a recent Hagerstown Television program on Antietam Cable Channel 6, talks about the new property tax rate structure for persons living within town or city boundaries. A new method of calculating property tax rates affected tax bills that went out on July 1st. Some municipal residents saw as much as 12 and a half cents reduced from the tax portion which the County collects. Murray talks about the “Tax Differential” and about other new tax programs that may benefit County Citizens.
